A Message from Mrs. BrownHere we are at the half way mark of school and we’ve had some good things happening so far. Six new students enrolled today, bringing our enrollment up to 165! I still maintain that we are one of Siskiyou County's best kept secrets! Along with new students, we have five new teachers as well. Our new teachers are making great connections with their students, bringing fresh ideas to their classrooms, and working as a team with their fellow teachers and aides. Our leveled reading program continues to be a great success, giving our young students the boost they need to reach grade level literacy by third grade. We now have Renaissance Place, the online version of Accelerated Reader. This updated program allows greater access for both students and parents. The fourth grade class is learning to play recorders, Tiny Dancers are dancing, and the Montague Band is up and playing. Band Director, Mrs. Allen, informs me that students have gone from not knowing how to make a sound to playing scales, short songs, and even their first pieces of sheet music! Basketball, GATE, and JUMP are in full swing, and Ski Club is getting ready for the slopes. I want our students, as adults, to be able to take care of themselves. To take care of themselves, they must be employable, to become employable and competitive, our students must become accomplished readers. This is our greatest gift to our students; my job is to insure that nothing stands in the way of their right to literacy. Margretta P.
